How to Keep Oil-Based Paint Brushes Fresh using Linseed Oil

In this video, Melanie from Glaze Craft Windows in Virginia shares a simple but powerful tip for anyone working with linseed oil-based paints: how to keep your paint brushes soft and usable using purified, raw linseed oil.

Linseed oil paints are great—but cleaning brushes at the end of each day takes too much time and isn’t necessary when using Melanie’s trick.  As Melanie points out, you can keep using the same brush day after day—no daily cleaning, no replacements. It’s a small detail, but it makes a big difference when restoring historic wood windows or trim. Try it on your next project and save time, money, and frustration.

Just another trick to make it easier for you to preserve your historic home!

NOTE: THIS TRICK WILL NOT WORK WHEN YOU’RE USING MODERN, SYNTHETIC OIL PAINTS LIKE “ALKYD” OIL PAINTS AS THEY ARE ACTUALLY PLASTIC, NOT OIL BASED.
